Homemade Rice Turmeric Scrub 2


Scrub is an essential beauty product in our beauty routine. Exfoliation is one of the important process for people who care for their skin. The process exfoliate dead skin cells and sometimes add nutrients to the skin. Thus the skin may become smooth, clean and healthy. 

There are abundance of ready made body scrub in the market. Herbs, fruits, rice and milk are some of the ingredients contained in body scrub. And the price of these scrubs range from cheap, affordable to expensive. 

But many of us also loves to make homemade scrub. Why. Because it is not only cheaper, but also fresh and flexible. It is flexible as we can control the ingredients used to make our body scrub. And making scrub is also take not much of our time. 

There are many ingredients can be used to make homemade scrub. And they range from long lasting scrub to easily expire one. Dry ingredients such as rice, coffee ground and dried ingredients are usually last longer than wet ingredients such as milk and yogurt. But mixing some ingredients together and drying it may make it last longer. 

Here I am sharing a dry or powder type of homemade scrub which is known as a traditional Malay body scrub (Malay here means Malay archipelago people). It is a traditional body scrub which is effective to brighten and smooth the skin. And plus, it is easy to make. Lets take a look at the recipe.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup rice or glutinous rice
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder or fresh turmeric
  • 1/3 cup of tamarind juice

Method 1
  • Wash and soak the rice in the water for 3 hour to 24 hours.
  • After that strain the rice and pound, process or blend it until it become a fine paste. If you blend the rice, use the tamarind juice and add just enough water to it. 
  • Then add turmeric powder to the paste. Also add the tamarind juice and mix well. 
  • Then pour it on a wide tray and let it dry completely. This may take a few days.
  • Then blend the dried paste to form a powdered version of it. 
  • Keep the dry powdered scrub in a dry bottle or contained which water not easily splashed into it (narrow neck bottle is suitable). 
  • When applying the scrub, add some water to form a paste and apply to your skin and let it almost dry. Then you and clean it with soap and rinse it. 

Method 2
  • Wash and soak the rice in the water for 3 hour to 24 hours.
  • Dry the rice in a wide container.
  • When the rice is completely dry blend the rice into a fine powder.
  • Then add the turmeric powder to it and store in a dry bottle or container. Do not let the scrub get wet or it may not last long.

Method 3
  • If you have rice flour and is lazy to process the rice into powder like in method 1 and 2, you can follow this third method.
  • Take 1/3 cup of rice flour and 1/3 teaspoon turmeric powder. Add in some tamarind juice to it so it became a paste. Then apply the scrub to your skin and wait it dry or almost dry.
  • Apply soap and scrub your skin before rinsing it. 

Rice and turmeric is a well known ingredients which is good for skin. The rice contains some nutrients which make the skin brighter, smooth and radiance. Turmeric has it anti inflammatory and brightening properties which also may enhance he skin health and beauty. Tamarind is slightly acidic and also contain vitamins, which help to eliminate excessive oil on the skin. But if you do not have tamarind, you just can proceed to make your scrub with just these two ingredients.

Soaking the rice is essential to make the rice softer and weak so that it is easier to turn it into rice paste. The texture is also changed as the soaked rice is more tender when added water to it compared to the rice which is not soaked. Softer rice particles may act softer to your skin. 

The scrub usually can last for 2 months if it does not get wet.  1 cup of rice may produce 3/4 cup of scrub. It is quite a lot and may last for 2 two months.
